Whenever you save and load a structure, any water sources in the structure (including waterlogged blocks) will spread out and fill all adjacent waterloggable blocks.

Nope, I've got structures spawning thirty blocks in the air with no water around except for what generates with the structure. See attached for water spreading from a two-block water feature along the full length of the structure.

You sure you don't experience MC-140270?

I'm still getting this in random spots of custom and modified vanilla structures in 1.18.2.

Really glad to see this getting fixed. Good call splitting the two issues.

MC-140270 has been reopened to describe the case where existing water sources spread inside the loaded structure; i.e. the case which will not be fixed by this fix for this issue.

Finally saving in the future with Data Packs those Taiga Decorations that required water in the inside so it didn’t become “Villager traps”. Probably this fix includes an indirect fix for another more common vanilla example that happened in a Village house due to this water spreading problem MC-141034

It's finally getting fixed. Thank you Matthew

After investigating, I see this as two separate issues. I have only fixed one of them.

I will update this issue to only describe the issue that was fixed. A moderator may want to reopen one of the duplicates that represents the other issue and ask for a new triage.

The issue that is fixed: When a structure loads, water sources in the structure spread into waterloggable blocks

The issue that is not fixed: When a structure is placed in water, water sources outside the structure spread into waterloggable blocks. (For example, when a shipwreck generates under water, its trapdoors become waterlogged.)

There was an example of the second case in the description. I removed it but it's here if you want to copy it to a new issue:

Example of it happening with vanilla structure generation:

          seed: mansiontest

          coords -18490 69 -3374

A potential fix that i found was filling the area that will be loaded with the structure with a block that cant be waterlogged (I like to use barriers). Then when you load the structure the barriers will prevent the water spreading and waterlogging the area

Having this same issue in 1.16 Pre-release 4.
