I've been trying to revive a village that I found in the game this past summer and I've been noticing that my villagers have been disappearing without any explanation. I've idiot-proofed most of the caves and have recently been putting light sources around the village to decrease the amount of enemy mob spawns.

And while I've worked on improving the village, I have kept my small villager population locked up in a large church building with multiple beds and I keep the door blocked with dirt blocks to prevent them from wandering or getting lost.

But when I woke up during one in-game morning today and went into the building to check on the villagers, they had all vanished into thin air. The building is large enough that they should not have suffocated (see attached pictures) and there is no way for hostile mobs to enter into the building.

I want to say the issue might have happened after a seventh villager was created through breeding earlier today in my play session. If this bug keeps recoccuring, I might just give up on reviving this village altogether

I do not have any mods installed and am playing Minecraft in its vanilla form through the  MultiMC launcher.

      Steps to Reproduce:
      1. Find an empty village (or create one)
      2. Make one large building with plenty of beds and one door
      3. Obtain 7 villagers through curing zombie villagers, breeding existing villagers or spawning them

      4. Block off the door from the front with dirt or cobblestone block to prevent villagers from exiting

      5. Hang around the village, do landscaping and misc other improvements to village, being sure to go to sleep at night.

I've been playing in a world for a while(with my family) and this happened to me as well, I already had gone to the end and nether, we rebuilt the village and it had 3 bells, their new homes had 4 beds each because they were big houses, we built a trading center in which we had all of the working sites, they looked happy in their new homes but then we did a raid and everything went fine, but a day after the raid all of our villagers, golems and even our bees disappeared. And after that, no evil mobs spawn either. We would like this problem solved because we did a really good effort in rebuilding this village.

I can try employing the other villagers by placing job site blocks in the church. There are other buildings in the village with job site blocks and beds, but I have kept all the villagers in the church for their own safety until I have finished landscaping around.

But aside from two nitwit villagers and the three employable villager and a baby villager, there was one cleric villager who should not have fallen victim to the despawn.

Still think there is a bug with despawning but I will try letting my villagers spread out into the other vacant buildings and just hole them up in there.

I think this happens because "useless villagers" despawn, when an uneployed villager wanders away from the village, he just desappears, I don't know if this is intended but it happens to me, I think all your villagers were unenployed and they despawned because this building you did does not act like a village.

HOW TO MAKE IT A VILLAGE.

The game makes villagers not go away from the village by making them gather around the village bell once a day, also, they go to bed every night.

Your village needs workstations to be a village, you need to place blocks where villagers can get employed with, these blocks are barrels, composters, lecterns, looms, smithing tables, fletching tables, cartography tables, stonecutters, brewing stands, blast furnaces, smokers and grindstones.

Once your village has a workstation and a bed in every house and also a bell, your village will officialy be a village. you will be able to trade with these villagers and they will not despawn.

Hope this fixes your problem! Works for me.
