Have downloaded and run use both latest .msi and .exe installer files today 18 April for Windows 10 x64. All 10+ attempts to install end up with the same "Unable to update the Minecraft Runtime Environment" message after a long pause.
-The local, Administrator user account was created today and no other software has been installed.
-No version of JRE has been, or is, installed on this laptop.
-Have tried installing by double-click and by Run as Administrator. no difference.
-The log file always results in "[Error: 2020-04-18 02:37:33.1836062: UpdatePistonComponent.cpp(50)] Piston update failed!"
The log file shows that multiple Java-related files (e.g. javaws.jar, jvm.dll, npdeployJava1.dll) timed out while downloading. By using the failed download URL from the log file the files can all be manually downloaded though. Hmmmm. suspicious.
-The other posts on this same message appear unhelpful so we've done a new one.
