Immediately after spawn without exiting:

Found a floating island with a broken gate, nether blocks, lava and a chest.  Tried to place a torch on obsidian on the broken portal, the torch vanished.  Cannot open chest.  Tried to place a block of gravel on a sideways stair piece, gravel vanished.  Tried to place a crafting table, it disappeared from my action bar, but did not appear on the ground.  Then tried to place the now empty action bar square on a different tile, and the crafting table appeared. Placed a torch on a crafted stone block.  I could place it, but then could not break the torch to pick it up.  Cannot break the crafting table.  Something seems very broken with this portal island.

Edit:  I exited the game to get the seed, came back in.  The object placement on the island now seems normal.  It was only on immediately on first play through after creation I saw the problems..
