Loot chests are empty when found

What I expected to happen was...:
Chests found at Desert Temples and Villages are empty

What actually happened was...:
Discovered Desert Temple with intact plate and TNT. When I reached the 4 chests, all were empty. Similar event happened at a Village previously. Restarted the game 3 times.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Visit area with expected loot chests
2. Open loot chest
3. Profit?
