So I finally got netherite  and I put mending on my Netherite axe and it never healed, its almost broken now. I've killed endless mobs with nothing mending on me JUST my netherite axe and it never healed. I JUST GOT a netherite pickaxe with mending and i went to the nether to heal it up from some quartz and NOTHING. NO healing to my pick axe at all. With this being said im getting scared to grind out a couple hours of netherite farming and put it on my armor for mending to not work. My netherite Sword on the otherhand Heals no problem.
