When a beacon is placed on the ground, if you go high up (on either survival or creative) and your render distance is on tiny, you will not be able to see the beam of light from the beacon as you go higher up (not sure how many blocks up, but probably at least 50), even if you are only a few blocks away from it or you are right above it. I'd like to see that you can see it extend all the way up.

Bug not present. Tested in 14w32d and set view distance to 2 chunks. Beam is still visible at block height 256

Cannot confirm with 14w10c, the beam is rendered on view distance 2 while flying high, see screenshot.

Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 14w03b? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

          affects 1.7.2

Totally reproduceable in 13w42b with low render distance settings ... someone please update the "affects versions"

@Thimo: That shouldn't be the case if youre above the beacon. Actually it should be directly infront you, so no way it blends in with the fog.

i think it isnt a bug because the beam blends in whit the fog.

Yeah I also consider this a bug. It was supposed to be visible for 1,000 blocks (if I remember right. Maybe map format should be changed to include beacon locations so beams show up at correct places, up to X distance away.

Simple answer: The chunks are saved as 16x16, but rendered as 16x16x16. Which means if youre on the lowest rendering distance, you go up atleast 48 blocks and your beacon vanishes.
