Golden pickaxe acting as a wood pickaxe!

      So I'm playing and I see a ruined portal. It has 2 GOLDEN pickaxes, one has fortune 3 and the other has silk touch. Then I head into a cave where I try to mine iron and when I do, nothing drops. It mines at the same speed as a gold pick but wont mine anything that a gold pick would. It thinks my Golden pick is a wood pick! What do I do!
