The crafting patterns between the various types of base stone blocks (Stone, Deepslate, and Blackstone) is highly inconsistent, meaning players need to remember the peculiarities of each type individually.

For example, the brick recipes for plain stone all use Stone as the basis for their crafting, so the player must smelt cobble (or silk the original block) to craft the bricks. For Deepslate the crafting recipes for the polished versions use Cobbled Deepslate as the base; if the player uses silk or smelts the cobble, the resulting plain Deepslate cannot be used to craft anything. For Blackstone on the other hand, there's no cobbled variant at all, and everything uses plain Blackstone as the base.

These differences across stone types may have been a conscious choice, but if not it's worth considering.
