Shift click item from the creative menu doesn't put into your hotbar. This is different than in survival and Bedrock edition creative mode. Currently this function gives you a stack of something in creative but that function is already done by the middle button click. Shift + middle click should be then give you a stack of item plus move them into the players hotbar.
