      I haven't seen anyone talking about this so I might be wrong but It seems like the Japanese language pack uses a Chinese font? For example, this is how these words are written in a Japanese font:

      And this is how they look in Minecraft:

      Which is how they look in Chinese. I tried with the "Force Unicode Font" setting turned on and off and it didn't make any difference.

          No I don't think so. From what I have read the unicode for Japanese and Chinese characters are the same and it's the font that decides in which style they should be rendered. For example, the default fonts in Chrome render the characters as Chinese, very noticeable with the character "直" but if you change the font to lets say Meiryo the characters are rendered as Japanese.
