When throwing chicken eggs to get baby chickens, you can see that when the throwed eggs hit the baby chicken, a damage "animation" is shown. The same applies with snowballs. I think this is confusing. The damage animation should only play when the item being thrown actually deals damage (like throwing snowballs to blazes or ender dragon).
