closes when i go higher than update 1.7.2

      When I open up m Minecraft launcher, I would go to edit account and press recently up to date or something and then anything above 1.7.2 would just take me back to the launcher. The tab minecraft 1.7.9 shows up, i see the logo and it just goes back to the launcher. Do you have a solution, if you do tell me please. thanks.
