Well I mated pigs before with carrots and the love particles appeared. Then all of a sudden they didn't. Im certain that they didn't appear because they went towards each other and did the mating process but without the particles. I don't know if it helps but they are fenced with cobblestone walls

To redo the process I would just mate pigs in a confined space.
