When you jump right as you eat a chorus fruit and get teleported, you get killed due to fall damage you take. I could see some problems to avoid fall damage if you jumped off a cliff and ate it at the last second to purposely not take any damage, but I think that would be better than accidentally jumping and instantly dieing underground in a place never to see again.
