Happens with all food items: Eating a food item has a chance of also consuming a second food item without any animation.

I'm still seeing this in 1.4.4pre in SSP on Mac Os 10.5.8. In fact, you get even less warning that it's about to happen than in prior versions. But AFAICS /all/ instances of this bug are currently marked as Closed/Resolved. Unless I've overlooked the 'live' version of the bug, one of these older reports should be reopened.

FWIW, i've seen this happen too, and no, its not lag, as the game doesn't freeze up in any way when it happens. It just, as describes, consumes another food.

@Brandon: Except for that it doesnt freeze. Thats what Marios tried to say, SSP on a SSD is the fastest you can get, it CANT be a lag issue. Thats what i also experience, my Minecraft doesnt lag in SSP, and when i eat food my screen doesnt freeze, my avatar just sometimes starts eating another item. If it would be a lag issue, then there would still be the animation eating it, and you wouldnt walk with normal speed again, because thats whats happening; theres no animation of the second item being eaten and you walk with normal speed again.

While you are eating, the game lags. You try to consume one food item but it the game is still functioning while the screen appears temporarily frozen. When it resumes you have already started eating the second item and it is easily consumed. This happens to me all the time. It is difficult to avoid because the lag can happen unexpectedly.

Lag issue on SSP with the game installed on SSD? It's not just that the eating food sound plays, the item is consumed too, for real. I don't exactly understand what you mean by lag issue.

          It's a lag issue, not a bug

Thanks for the workarounds to the problem, but it would be awesome if it gets fixed.
