When I tried to open the Minecraft Launcher today it reported that it was downloading files for an update and then the launcher crashed.
If I delete the .minecraft directory then I am able to launch the Minecraft Launcher but cannot re-install Minecraft because I get an error that the download speed is too low. I performed a speedtest and at the time my internet had a download speed of 54 Mbps, which should be more than sufficient.
When the Launcher does open, it has a message:
"A new Launcher update is ready. Restart the Launcher to use the latest version."
However, when I restart the launcher, it returns to downloading files and crashing.
If I check my "Settings" in the Minecraft Launcher:

Is there some way that I can re-install the Minecraft Launcher or force the update?
The updateLog file in .minecraft says that the update was successful but there is clearly something not working.
