I opened and played Minecraft earlier this morning in the latest version, 1.12, and also on 1.8.9 for servers. Both of them performed perfectly. I shut down my Mac and a few hours later I booted it up, launched MC, and pressed play for version 1.8.9. It loaded then crashed a few seconds later with the launcher re-appearing with the message that the game has crashed. After multiple attempts on multiple versions, they met with the same result. Deleting and reinstalling made no difference.
