I have noticed that on newly generated flat worlds with the new lower world height that now and again mobs will disappear for a fraction of a second. All of them at the same time. I have tested this on newly generated normal terrain and it's fine, but then I generate a new flatworld and it happens again, I guess it's due to the entities being below y=0?
