When using the TP command, tamed mobs do not properly follow the player. This used to work as expected in previous builds such as 1.1.4, however this stopped working with 1.1.5 and beyond. Tamed mobs will follow if teleporting to a loaded chunk nearby, but teleporting to a distant area causes the mob to disappear. Using an external map viewer, the mob is still present in the world data, however it is not in-game. This behavior happens with wolves, cats, and parrots. I've also tested between two locations set as ticking areas, which should always be active in memory, and the mob still disappears. As stated, all tamed mobs would follow the player, even across vast distances, when using the TP command in older versions.
