Monster Spawner does not spawn anything in Survival Mode

      I currently have a Monster Spawner next to my house, and it does not spawn anything. The problem is, I am in survival mode, so I can not put a spawn egg in the Monster Spawner. It was a Skeleton Spawner before, but now I can’t use it because it is broken.
