Once I was trolling my friend and I punched him off a a tall tower I built and he fell in some lava and he took fall damage.
To reproduce: Have a platform and put lava on it. Make sure every lava has a block under it so you will take the fall damage. Then make a tall tower, go in survival, and jump onto the lava with the block under it. You will take fall damage.
