If you select "Cancel" while connected to an external server, you will no longer be able to enter that server.
You're only playing on a single device, but it's say "I can't participate in the world. The account you are signed into is currently playing the world on another device." you won't connect to that server.
Rebooting and uninstalling did not resolve this.
