I was playing on multiplayer mode (on MCPE) with two of my friends. They had their own skins equipped. (we've checked it many times) But then I saw them like they were wearing default Steve skins. They were very suprised because when they opened their inventories they saw their own skins (not the Steve ones) They also told me that I looked like a Steve. I opened my inventory and saw my own skin. We were very confused about that. It turned out that every player sees his own skin unchanged, but all other players look to him like Steves.
