We are aware of this situation. It happens because we are not in sync with Microsoft account/Xbox profile events.
If you would like to request your data to be removed in compliance with GDPR, CCPA, UK GDPR or COPPA, please place a request with Minecraft Support.
Closing Microsoft Accounts doesn't delete the Minecraft account linked with it from the database, which for example makes the username unavailable to be claimed by somebody else.
What I expected to happen was...:
I expected that after closing my Microsoft account, the Minecraft account linked to it would also be gone from Minecraft's database, which in turn would make the username available for me to claim.
What actually happened was...:
I am unable to log into the account (because I deleted it) but the username is "claimed by a profile that already exists" even though the account is supposed to be deleted.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have a Microsoft account which is linked to a Minecraft account
2. Close the account by following Microsoft's official guide (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/how-to-close-your-microsoft-account-c1b2d13f-4de6-6e1b-4a31-d9d668849979)
3. Wait 30 days for the closure to happen
4. The Minecraft account will still be on the database.
While I'm definitely not a legal expert or professional by any means, this MIGHT violate some privacy laws and I think everybody would want this fixed as soon as possible.
